Rivendell Painting and Carpentry LLC is a small local Vermont business specializing in renovations and finish carpentry. It is owned and operated by Matthan Stroethoff. The name Rivendell is synonymous with fine craftsmanship. Rivendell is the name of a city within a hidden valley in Middle Earth (JRR Tolkien's fictional realm and the setting of many of his writings including The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit).
Within Rivendell, lies the house of Elrond, also called 'The Last Homely House East of the Sea.' His house was not only a thing of beauty, but a place of warm hospitality; "the house of Elrond was a refuge for the weary and the oppressed, and a treasury of good counsel and wise lore" (The Silmarillion). Rivendell Painting and Carpentry aspires to the same level of craftsmanship, one that not only makes a house more beautiful, but also transforms a building into a hospitable space.
