As boat builders carrying on the centuries-old craft of fine yacht joinery and yacht aesthetics - instead of house carpenters or cabinet makers who have adapted their craft to boats -clients can trust the finished product will be both beautiful and lasting, even in the most extreme sea conditions. With over 20,000 miles of blue water sailing experience, we know how to design and build for maximum functionality and quality.

From minor fine cabinetry and repairs, to new custom boat construction, our skills and experience let us professionally manage and complete any project. Located on Galveston Bay, Craven Boatbuilding is a full-service marine woodworking facility serving the Houston and Galveston yacht community, the Southern antique mahogany runabout market and the custom boat building market nationally.

With over 25 years of experience, we offer the finest craftsmanship and boat building knowledge for any woodworking project. As a Scandinavian trained yacht builder relying on vast experience gained in the finest boat yards on the West and Gulf Coasts, we can efficiently complete all types of projects with an artisan's touch.
Services
Craven Boatbuilding also employs modern boatbuilding techniques, such as cold molding and vacuum-bag laminating, to build seamless and fastener-free structures and components, or for laminating teak decks.
We can design and build fiberglass structures and parts from mold fabrication to final gel-coated layup.
With our combined boatbuilding expertise and extensive yachting experience, we provide the best solutions for equipment installations and cruising gear, and can modify your yacht to accommodate them.
Craven Boatbuilding offers the increasingly rare art of the Master Shipwright, an extensive knowledge of wooden boat construction and joinery coupled with the mastery of woodworking.
Gained by the centuries old method of apprenticeship, and honed by extensive experience, this age-old craft is carried on through us.
That expertise leaves us qualified to undertake any repair on wooden boats of any size, from 3-ton classic racing sloops to 100-ton Coast Guard-inspected historical ships.
With wooden yacht experience in complete re-builds up to 60', historic restorations, new construction, and every repair in between, your wooden classic can be entrusted to us with confidence.
Without planking seams and bungs to swell and break the varnish, the finish remains as perfect as the day it was built.
The mahogany planks never cup, crack or move, maintaining perfect fairness because they are laminated to stable marine plywood sub-planking.
With no caulking maintenance, they can be stored out of the water without seams opening, and they cannot leak.
They have all the beauty of traditionally built wooden classics, yet without any of the traditional maintenance.
Both restorations and new builds from Craven Boatbuilding have won year after year in the finest classic boat shows, such as the Lake Tahoe Concours D'Elegance, the Lake Coeur D'Alene Wooden Boat Show, and the Keels & Wheels Wooden Boat Show in Texas.
Craven Boatbuilding can build any boat design you have in mind and can custom design from any given hull plan - from the deck, cabin and cockpit layout, to the interior design using lightweight and stiff cold-molded construction in power, sail or small boat designs.
We can also build classic boat designs in traditional construction methods, such as glued double carvel planking over frames, for a classic look with a seamless, maintenance-free hull or single plank-on-frame for the purist.
No matter how simple or complex your design of choice, we can realize it for you through all phases of construction, from lofting, to building, to systems and mechanical installation, to paint and varnish.
