Carpenter Place is one of the most unique "children's homes" in the nation. We provide a Christian home environment, not a facility or an institution. Each girl is seen as a valuable child of God's kingdom and we focus on helping her realize her true potential and hopefully guiding her and her family to a successful reunion. We've been helping children and families in crisis for over 70 years.

Today, we work specifically with girls and their families, and we do so thanks to the generous support of many caring individuals, churches and organizations. Do you know a struggling, hurting girl that would benefit from a loving, stable, healing environment like Carpenter Place? Our Christian Family Program and Christian Learning Center are designed to help girls ages 11 to 18 who are struggling with an array of "hurts."

Some of the hurts we see may have been caused by divorce, illness, incarceration, or a death that may have occurred. Maybe there is a history of addiction within the home, or perhaps a parent has deserted the family.
Services
Our legacy began with a family in need and a group of Christians who wanted to help.
The Riverside Church of Christ answered the need as best they could with the donation of time, money, and possessions.
But, eventually, more was needed.
The children, living in an unfinished one-room, one-window home with a dirt floor, began to get sick.
Ralph F. Childs and his wife, Gladys, brought the first 3 sick children into their own home.
With sadness, the children's father realized he was unable to provide the care his children needed and asked the Childs to help locate a home for 7 of his children, desiring they not be separated.
The girls we serve are, for a variety of reasons, in need of an alternate home environment.
This may be due to neglect, abuse, poor peer influences, absence of parental figures, or some other fracture in the parent-child relationship.
Carpenter Place is able to treat each child and each family situation uniquely.
The programs we have in place provide the support and encouragement needed to overcome the challenges these girls face.
We are a private-placement, long-term residential care setting where Christian house-parents set guidelines, provide structure, and show love and respect for each other and the children in their care to instill values that will lead them towards emotional, social, and spiritual maturity.
We believe every child deserves a stable and loving home environment.
That is the environment we provide to every girl who steps foot on our campus.
The children's home started out on a 40 acre farm that extended from 13th Street north to 16th Street between St. Paul and Meridian streets.
Though a bit smaller today, our beautiful campus resides on 13 acres at 1501 N Meridian and is a true oasis for those we serve.
We invite you to drop by and tour our campus any time to see for yourself the haven for hurting girls that resides right in the heart of Wichita.
For over 70 years, Carpenter Place has existed in great part due to the generous support, encouragement, and donations of many individuals, organizations, and churches.
Carpenter Place is a 501(c)(3) organization and is 100% privately funded.
We could not do what we do without the help of those who support us.
Gifts of all kinds are welcome and necessary for meeting the needs (emotional, spiritual, and physical) of our girls, our campus and facilities, our house-parents, and operations.
If you are looking to donate your time and talents in a mentor or volunteer capacity, please give us a call at 316.942.3221 for more information.
